Making of the WEEO WISER logo

Designing WEEO WISER's logo was one of the first group activities of the Young Women’s Advisory Committee, during the foundation stages of the program. Making it helped created a bond and a shared purpose for the future of the WEEO WISER program.

WEEO WISER logo 1The idea behind the WEEO WISER logo was young woman’s arms joining together to demonstrate the unity of young women from all ages and backgrounds, a unique and hopefully catchy idea. We took about 50 pictures of each others arms in every position and from every angle. Then I went back to my computer and using a program called Photoshop selected some arms and digitally edited them to form the centre W.

Believe it or not that was the easy part, the hard part was then selecting a background and how to position the words around it.

We experimented with having the meaning of WEEO WISER in a circle around the W and having them in a square - there was a lot of time spent in this stage to select how to place the words.

Well it came down to the shades of pink or blues and I can’t recall why but we felt the blue was the one to go with!

So that’s an overview of how our logo came about. To me, this is an important part of the WEEO WISER history as it shows the taking of an idea to creating an innovative and eye catching symbol that we hope leaves a memorable impression when it is seen in schools and other services. And hopefully it will continue to be seen for years to come.
