Naming the project
The Name . . .
“What’s in a name? Heaps!
I think names are important – they’re your first point of contact and they’re the hint that tells you what the program is about.
So how to communicate all the different values and ideas in a couple of words about a peer education program that is heaps of fun AND is about preventing violence AND aims to educate and empower young women to make safety and equality a priority in their relationships AND aims to equip them to help others and support their friends????!!! Brainstorming time!!!
After putting some ideas onto paper it was up to the expert opinion from the young women’s advisory committee to decide – what did they find attractive, youth friendly and communicated what the program was about?
The unanimous choice was
‘WEEO WISER’ – the name that
covers says it all!
Women Educating Each Other - Women in Safe and Equal Relationships.
A slightly quirky and interesting name, it attracts interest – “what’s that about?” but is fairly discreet and user friendly. Plus it highlights at first glance that We are Wiser! Women are able to make their own decisions and have the ability to draw on their own inner resources. So what’s in a name? Heaps!”
